[movies]Metroid - Time Attack by Jeff C. (aka Arc) - Jeff 'Arc' C.
[NB - this video was transferred from the Machinima collection, and uses different rules to the other speeds runs in this collection, including use of emulators and multiple save states.] Another example of the pre-history of machinima - players bragging about their impressive performances to other players. This roughly 17-minute run through the NES's Metroid demonstrates the fastest path through the game. Please note: These speedthroughs were played on an emulator, using game slow-down options a...

[movies]Super Mario World - Xbox emulated run in 0:10:47 - Andrew McKinlay - Andrew McKinlay
Speed run of Super Mario World done on xsnes9x Super Nintendo emulator for Xbox, does not count as official record for SMW. Author's comments: This run was extremely lucky in two areas, 1. That i didn't die by that stupid stump thing in the first castle. 2. That i didn't choke on that lame water level like i always do. I'm never going to play this game ever again, as I officially became a complete loser this summer having played this game waaaaaay too much...

[movies]Umihara Kawase (SNES) - 13:15 (Japan version, emulated run) - Eric Stratmann (aka. Bob Whoops)
This game is about a schoolgirl with a bag of holding and a rubber fishing line setting out to rid the world of giant mutant fish. This video plays the longest path of the game having only two bosses. The boss levels are quite long in this movie - they can't really be sped up, but the author of the movie has done his best to make it worth watching. No frogs were harmed in the making of this movie.

Atlantis no Nazo is a game where an explorer is trying to save his friend and must find his way through a maze of rooms. In this case, levels. The previous author (Morimoto) wasted some time before pressing start and before ending his movie, but even if not counting that, this movie is ~77 frames faster than the previous version. The author wishes to thank Morimoto and Randil for contributions that made this movie possible.

[movies]Deja Vu (NES) - 11:26 (US version, emulated speedrun) - Hans Olsson (aka. Walker Boh)
A storybook game like Shadowgate and Uninvited. In this one you star as Ace Harding, a detective who wakes up having no idea who or where he is. As the game progresses you discover that you have been framed for a crime you didn't commit, and must find a way to clear your name. This movie features ultrafast menu navigation, some luck manipulation and generally a very precise walkthrough doing only what is absolutely necessary.

[movies]Wizards n Warriors (NES) - 10:53 (US version, emulated run) - Hans Olsson (aka. Walker Boh)
This is an improved version - 72 seconds faster than previously. Most of the improvement comes from heavy abuse of luck to get blue and pink potions when they are most useful. In this game you're an armor-clad knight with a big sword. You collect gems to bribe a red knight, kill evil beasts and rescue several "distressed damsels". Walker Boh completes the game shorter than anyone imagined, and discovered a few nice tricks / glitches...

This game is, in my opinion, extremely hard and seeing it beaten taking this quickly and with so few hits is quite impressive. There were some points when I took a hit in order to increase the speed, but otherwise I avoided as many as possible.

[movies]Tetris (NES) - 04:06 (US version, emulated run) - Jean-François Lapointe (aka. Acmlm)
This movie aims for the fastest possible time to get a score of 999999 in the Nintendo Tetris. It warps directly to the 19th level and fills half of the field quickly to be able to operate short distances in the top part of the field. From there on, it only gets tetrises (4-line clearings) until the score is maxed out. The occasional blinks in the movie are caused by rapid pausing to manipulate luck.

This game is about a schoolgirl with a bag of holding and a rubber fishing line setting out to rid the world of giant mutant fish. Actually, it's more like a little-known Japanese wire-action platformer (like Bionic Commando or Ninja Five-O) with a small but rabid fan following. Like Ikaruga, the game is very easy to win, but very difficult to play. This video demonstrates one of the fastest paths to the ending, including quite a few almost impossible maneuvers - whether playing tool-assisted or...

In this game you are supposed to hunt down an evil crime syndicate (so what else is new?) by freeing kids from blocks of ice, and capturing the red guys to get clues. Unfortunately the ninja didn't have time for that, he just walks past all baddies and kills the bosses. This syndicate turns out to be selling drugs, but the Black Manta sets them straight: "Drugs kill you think you're cool but you're not." Yeah! - Level 8 difficulty (hardest) - As fast as possible. - Absolutely no damage taken as it wouldn't speed up the process. - Doesn't take all powerups because they make you knock down enemies. It's desired that they stand up as much as possible. - Manages to get one of the chainmen to kill the other one, so there is less bonus afterwards (faster).

This game is something as unusual as a boat game where you race to the finish, rescue swimmers from being abducted, dispose of bombs, kill big-ass sea monsters and shoot targets. This movie aims for fastest time but makes some deviances from that goal to get more points: for example it saves all the swimmers where just saving one would have been slightly faster.

This saves a lot of time. * Skipped getting the sword on the first level. * Avoided fighting the skeleton on Level 3 by luring it to the left and jumping over it. * Took some fall damage during levels 8-10 because it saved time or was unavoidable.

This timeattack is different from the other Rygar timeattack in that it plays all levels and doesn't use the boss-warp glitch. Unlike the previous versions of the full (ie. deathless) run, this one makes full use of all the bugs and glitches in the game which can be used to speed up the run.
